vtec troubles
I dont own an itr, but i thought you guys can help....
My vtec hasnt worked sence i got the engine put in (b16a). It worked for the first week, then quit. No codes. Ecu is fine. Rewired the vtec solinoid wire from the ecu, due to a shitty wiring job. Changed solinoid. Changed the whole head, got the new head ported and polished, still didnt work. im so pissed, i spent so much money for the vtec to still not engage. Yes i have enough oil in it. IF the oil pressure sensor is totally gone bad, it will throw a code right? Or will it only throw a code if it is starting to deteriorate? What could cause vtec to not work? I have a chipped ecu and it should come on at 4500, the sound changes a bit , but not super loud like it should.
i thought the old head had gummed up oil and that was causing it not to engage. But the new head didnt work any better.
please help. Thanks!

i know its not engaging. i only ran a 15.3 and should get mid 14s at least. i know what it feels like.
jason- who can not hear or "feel" his vtec either
usually if you can't feel the VTEC then it means that the changeover is in the right place. The goal of VTEC is to have a smooth flat torque curve, not a spike. If you want to know if it's working rig up an LED light to the VTEC solenoid and see if it activates. With no codes I would bet that everything is ok.
You should easily be able to tell if it is engaging or not by if the car will rev over 6500. If the VTEC will not come on you will feel the car fighting for air by 7000.
My suggestion would be to test the oil pressure going to the solenoid and after the solenoid. I think it should be around 60 psi.
Does your speedometer work? This will cause VTEC to not opperate.
Hope one of these works for you.

check your timing, it may have slipped....otherwise what was your vtec programmed to? usually u cant rev past 7000 or so w/out vtec..how high can u take it...and maybe since u have head work and all this new stuff....ever think about dumping those stock cams???maybe they are even auto b16 cams...
u will need at least type r's to get potential of your headwork anyway
