Vtec not working on LS/VTEC...REALLY wierd problem...
I can not get the vtec to work in my ls/vtec. The setup is:
LS block w/ ITR pistons
LS oil pump, shimmed to make more pressure- 70 psi@4k+
'00 ITR head
Dual Valvesprings
Titanium retainers
Skunk2 stage 2 cams
Aem cam gears
I am making plenty of oil pressure to activate vtec. I'm using a zdyne 1-wire conversion for my car, so the computer doesn't check for load/temp/oil pressure, etc..., so none of these are variables in my problem, because it will activate vtec anyway at a set RPM. I have checked the solenoid screen and internals and they are all in working order, I even tried a different solenoid that was known to be working. I have checked for a 12v signal to the solenoid when vtec is supposed to hit and it is there, and I have also just tried jumping 12v to the solenoid when revving the car. I make plenty of oil pressure. I recently found that I didn't have the small dowel pin in the middle of the #3 cam cap, so I replaced that and the o-ring that goes around it, thinking this was for sure the cause of the problem. No cigar, vtec still doesn't work. I'm just worn out trying to find out what the hell is wrong with my setup. Any helpful tips or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Is your solenoid opening and closing? I'm thinking maybe somehow you got the oil line/passage clogged going to your vtec. Make sure you are getting ample oil pressure to the vtec solenoid even if you are getting plenty of pressure to your sending unit doesn't mean it's not clogged somewhere else between there and your solenoid. That's my first theory.
I have considered this much and I will try that. I just didn't check it before because it was a brand new line. Why is someone asking if I am using the stock air filter or not? Haha! Anyone else have any clues?
mine stopped engaging due to bad main bearings. i didn't beleive it could be possible when someone told me on here but sure enough thats what it was.

I have taken the head off and completely inspected it. Everything seems to be in order. I am using a -6an line. I got vtec to engage ONCE by taking off the oil pressure port on the Front on the head, by the header, and I put my air hose up to it and blew pressure into it, simulating the effect of oil pressure. Vtec engaged after that. Should I try going to a smaller line to try to get more oil pressure? I already have shimmed the oil pump and am using an RSX oil filter for more pressure.
I am running a -6 line and I have never had a problem. I don't know if the oil pressure itself will change if you put on a smaller line. Take your old line off and make sure there is no obstructions. I'm thinking if you can engage it with air pressure, and you have good overall oil pressure, then you aren't getting ample oil pressure up there. Thats gotta be it, something clogged somewhere.
send a PM tp poison on this board, if i remember correctly you have to connect one pin out on the ecu harness to another...i'm not sure on the exact ones...but he know...
GSRswapandslow.: first off, get rid of that oil pump. shimmed oil pumps are one of the stupidest things you can do. all 98+ and NEW oe oil pumps are the SAME THING for b-series...so there is no reason to shim something and **** it up when it's adequate allready.
and if you have a working sensor, oil supply, oil pressure, and all other things....then go back over your wiring and make sure it's all done correctly. Also, can the zydne de-activate Vtec? if so, make sure it's activated inside the zydne so that i'll send signal to activate it.
