I am trying to do a motor swap in a 98 civic EX, now this is a d16y8 motor (VTEC) but the motor that i want to put in...(just to get it running) is out of a 92 civic non vtec...would it work, i am using the tranny off the 98 vtec motor

Basically i am wondering if it would work, the tranny is a hydro tranny

 

itll work, whats the engine code off the motor, it wont be smog legal tho, you should just get another d16y8, they're cheap

 

Yes it would work except your going to throw ecu codes since your new motor isnt a vtec motor and doesnt have the noid and sensors that a vtec motor does..

Like others are saying just find a d16y8 motor to replace it.. If you really do want to use the d15b7 motor and if your old d16y8 head is good you could make a mini-me out of your b7 block.. Do a search for mini-me to find out info on it..
