Default VTEC NO WURK!

I own a 1990 Integra and i recently put in a OBDO JDM B16A.
My problem is that my vtec doesn't work because of my speed sensor.
I've already tried new speed sensors but here's the thing, when I insert the speedometer cable's end into the speed sensor and install the retaining clip, I spin the bottom gear of the speed-sensor and the needle on the speedometer jumps naturally. But when I install into the transmission, it doesn't work??? I don't know what the problem can be because I don't really know the internals of a transmission. And when I drive, my car pops out of 5th gear? Do any of these things and problems add up? Or are they completely different?
All the replies are much appreciated

As for the speed sensor i dunno, but the tranny popping out is either your shift linkage (make sure everything's nice and tight) or a tranny problem

what do you mean "what does it have to do with it?". then why are you asking about your speed sensor and your vtec not kicking in?

As far as your vtec- It still should kick in without your speed sensor working.

I don't know about 1990, but I'm pretty sure that for many years, the ECU won't trigger VTEC unless the VSS is showing at least some speed.

speed sensor should not have anything to do with the vtec, i have a 90 accord with an h22 swap with no iab or speed sensor and my vtec still works, but i have my vtec on a push button on my gear shift, what kind of car do u have and did u have to wire the vtec up manualy?
