vtec is kickin in late.
whats up guys.....my vtec kicks in at 5800.....but yesterday and today for some reason it doesnt kick in untill around 6200rmps........i checked my oil and it is fine...anyone have any ideas?
was the engine warm/hot?
did you check you oil level?
were you at WOT?
if your engine isnt under load and you are in a high gear the vtec will cut later, on my car in 5th gear the vtecsometimes wont come into 4800/4900 (stock 4400) as the throttle isnt open fully, and the engine isnt under load

check connections from ecu to vtec soleniod. maybe wirings getting old or something and it's not getting any signal. if all else fails, get a vtec controller. they come in VERY handy at times as such.

no a vtec controller doesn't give you hp. you can tune(air/fuel) with the VAFC and control the vtec engagement point and that's about it. you might be able to get a few horses out of your motor because the ecu is still a SOHC ecu no matter what chip you put in it. but the main thing is that you can adjust your vtec engagement point which comes in handy cause you can set it to kick in at any rpm.
im willing to bet 2$ its oil related
it sounds like its not building enough oil pressure for vtec to engage when its supposed to.
you might want to swap ecu's with a b16 and see if it turns on at the same time just to be sure.
