Default vss problems..

Switched out the sensor numerous times for a working one. Was not the problem.

checked all wiring, there seems to be no breaks or bare wires touching anywhere.

checked voltages and was getting readings, did not pick up the tire of ground to check 0-5v becuase i tested the sensor in a friends car.

i plugged and replugged my ecu, swapped the ecu.. everything.

checked my wires to cluster.. ok

i depined the plug becuase i read up that sometimes the plugs wire will corrode, properly pluggd them into the same position they would normally be.

before i did my gsr swap i had a ls, and the speedo/vss worked pristine. after the swap it has never worked since, once or twice i believe seeing the speedo bounce.

i have to pass emissions and i failed once, my 30 days is coming up soon (friday) and i wont be able to re-register the car if i cant fix this

any help appreciated.

Have you tried a different cluster? With the key on you should have 12v at the blk/yellow wire at the VSS. You should have continuity to ground on the black wire at all times. Did you reuse your old EWH or the one that came with the new motor? Look at the green body connector right by the ECU. Locate the Blue/White striped wire in cavity18/19 does this wire correspond on both sides of the connector? If not there is your problem. Smoe cars had this wire in cavity 18 while some had in cavity 19. These are just some ideas. Good luck and follow up.

i'm guessing you have a 96-00 civic? i had the same problem, sometimes it would work.. sometimes it wouldn't.. and the car might sometimes run like poop? or the car would throw a cel for vss?

i ended up having to change my engine harness. they had a recall on some civics that the wires under the intake manifold would rub and short out... although i pinpointed this problem the wiring harness seemed fine when i pulled it but that was still the problem..

pm me if u have any questions i could be able to help you out better

im trying to find another cluster, but im getting a CEL this is why i dont believe it would be cluster, but i WILL try one.

i have checked the blk/yellow for 12v and i do get it. black wire i cant remember but i believe it was getting continuity. i didnt jack the car up and spin tire becuase i know the sensor does in fact work. i tested it on a friends car.

thhis cavity you speak of, is this the plug in the dash tahts green? i have checked this and i dont believe it is the problem. i will check it again though.

i also checked ALL my fuses.

my harness is tucked. all the wires were re-wrapped. i DID check them behind the intake manifold but its really tight. ithink i may end up taking the harness off completely and checking the wires completely. if worse comes to worse. will end up having to buy a nother harness and run that for the time being, problem is i wold have to hack it up anyways because my bay is completely shaved. no holes to route wires through

i usually threw a code for a vss when i was engine braking, the cel would kick on, that would be the only time it did though i'd drive all over town and nothing.. until i left it in gear and slowed down with no throttle the cel would kick on..

sometimes i felt like i had mini vtecs while i was accelerating because the engine harness would kick in and out and always mess up.. it made my car run so shitty and i found a 99-00 si harness from a buddy and it's the best thing i've bought for my car

Sounds like you have checked everything you can without pulling the harness and checking it. 94

my speedo was doing something similar to yours a while back. i swapped VSS and had the same issues. it ended up being the connector right at the VSS.

the terminals were corroded or burnt. if you take the connector off and look inside you cant see anything until you remove the white pin guide then you will see the connectors may be bad and not giving proper contact.

i ended up finding someone with a hacked up wire harness that still had the VSS connector on it and cut/spliced it into my harness. worked perfectly ever since.
