Default vss causing vtec not to engage?

hey everyone i have a question about the vss...if im getting a vss code would this cause vtec not to engage? also would a bad cluster or bad speedometer cable cause a vss? if so how can i tell which one is the one thats causing the code?

i have a d16z6 in my ef and my speedometer doesnt work...and im getting code 17 vehicle speed sensor...i dont know if i have a bad sensor or bad speedometer cable or bad cluster....i dont know which one to replace...can ne one help me???????thanks in advance

what ecu are you running? and are you using the cable vss, or electronic?

how can i tell which one is the problem? i know its either 1 of these 3 things....speed sensor, speed cable, or the cluster itself...is there a way to test out the 3 things to find out which isnt workn????

Replace the speedo cable and you will be set. Its like 30 bucks or so from the dealer I think.

Yes, a faulty VSS sensor will stop the VTEC from engaging.

Your honda has to go faster than 30 Km/h before the ECU will allow the VTEC to engage. The ECU also reduces the RPM cutoff to around 6000RPM below this speed.
