Vibrating after new axle install?
A week ago I noticed a tear in the outer axle boot. Instead of replacing the boot I just decided to do the whole axle to avoid any probs later. I took it to a local speed shop and they installed a reman one. When driving back home I kept feeling a small vibration on the floor when I accelerate from a stop. It would continue into second gear then taper off. When cruzing in fourth I don't feel it.
Took it back to them and they replaced the axle with another new reman, thinking that maybe the first one was bad. Still the vibration continues.
Any suggestions?
It's not the alignment or wheels cause the steering wheel does not shake. The vibration goes away when in neutral. It seems to only do it when in gear.

Vibration under acceleration is usually a sign of a bad inner CV joint. Why two axles would do this, I don't know, unless they are poorly remanufactured or old re-booted shafts. Is your car lowered or do you have any special aplication needs due to a swap or something?
maybe your wheel bearings needs replacing, jack up your car and see if there is any play when you try to move your wheel side to side
With rebuilt axles the quality sucks. A lot of times the axle length is too long and under acceleration it 'binds' up. I have had a lot of problems with rebuilt axles either not fitting or just being junk.

My car is lowered 2.25 in front on Neuspeed Race springs with Koni Yellows.
Even though I've been that low for 2 years, could it have finally caused something to get out of wack in the axles somehow?

yeah i am having the same problem, i have a 96 hatch with a ls/vtec with a gsr tranny, i replaced both axles, and the damn thing vibrates only on acceleration, neutral is fine, would replacing the intermediate shaft help? or a bad tranny, or could getting the alignment done or something help? it feels like the whole front of the car is shaking from left to right, rattling the door panels, very annoying. late
Hmm, i have this problem after about 3-5k miles on rebuilds. I have LSD and for some reason, it wears the inside driver's side joint out. I thought maybe it only happened to me, but now, I guess it happens to other people. I bought napa axles and they have lifetime warranty, so when it goes, just take it out and get a new one from them....hehehe
Take the axles out and hold both the inner and outer cups, give them a twist in opposite directions and see if there is any "play" when changing directions. Give them an "Indian burn" style twist in both directions. If there is play, when you accelerate, the slack may be causing it. It may also be from the lack of torsional dampers found on high quality and Honda factory axles. Both of these traits are found in your Autozone or Advance remanufactured axles. If honda factory axles have little to no play and have torsional dampers, then you should have them on your reman. axles.
I'm taking it in tomorrow for them to look at again. Their gonna put in on the lift and drive the wheels and see what is vibrating.
My biggest worry is that their gonna tell me to replace something that they think is causing the problem and it be expensive. Then to find out after the fact that it didn't do the trick.
I still think its the axle. It did not do this prior. Only right after I got it. But their not gonna give me a third axle for free.

I am not sure where you got the remanufactured axle from, but IF the axle is causing the problem, find out where the axle came from, and explain the problem to them. If there is some slop in the axle, it is caused by tolerances that are too far on the loose side, if the rubber doughnuts are not on the axles, request that they be added. Your expectations are not unreasonable.

Should I ask for a Honda axle? Are they expensive?
I just don't want to start spending anymore money than I already have. The mech is suggesting the problem may lead toward the transmission but without doing some testing he won't know for sure. Thats bucks I don't have!

Just came back from the shop. Put the car on the lift and drove the wheels to see if they can see anything vibrate underneath. They didn't see anything.
The mechs say it probably is the camber/toe that is off causing the vibration. Combined with the fact that I'm so low in front. They just can't think of anything else it could be.
Wouldn't the camber/toe and the whole alignment thing cause the steering wheel to shake? Cause when I feel the vibration on the floor, the steering wheel is perfectly fine. And I don't feel it when I'm coasting in neutral. I only feel it when in gear and accelerating.

ok heres what i did today, i jacked the car up put it on jackstands, turned the car on put it in 5th gear and when the tires were spinning you can see the passenger side axle (the suspect one) wobbling, wobbling so bad that it sort of pushes on the tranny causing the motor to shake, and i checked the play and there is definitley some, it seems like it is popped out or something, i called the place where i got the axle from, DIPS in garden grove, and they said to bring it back and theyll give me another one, i guess its cool to have lifetime warranty on axles, but the hassle just sux, i guess nothings better than oem. Also is there anything in the tranny that could cause this action? Thanks for all the help
Try http://www.raxles.com.....250 bucks for gsr axles. I talked to the guy and he said they use new cores or something. I forget what they put in new. But they don't reman the area that causes the ticking. Never tried them but i was thinking about using them instead of going through the head ache. I think they have lifetime warranty too. Peace.
shitty day i was on the freeway today, and then all of a sudden my car did go no more, the axle broke at the cv boot, so the problem must have been a defective reman axle, i called the place where i got mine from and they said they will get me one with all brand new **** it in it, aye tooo much damn work.
ok i got another one it vibrated, until the boot closest too the rotor blew, then the wobble went away, my suspicion is that they were building them a little short, and once the boot blew it kept it from trying to come out of the transmission. im just gonna have my friend put a new boot on properly. thanks for all the help
