Default A very hard ECU question?

I sounds crazy, but it is true. My car runs perfect all the time except for one thing.

When my ecu gets colder then about 50 degrees it will not allow my car to run. How can I fix this?

It sux whenever it is cold out i have to bring my ecu in the house or warm it up outside some how. PLEASE HELP!!!

I just think it is crazy. It isn't like their are any moving parts. It should work in any temp. I open it(the ecu) up the other night everything looked in place ( at the same time i really don't know what i am looking for).

Could be connection fatigue. I see this alot in older projection TV's. Due to the ever changing temps the connections on the board expand and tighten over time they crack the solder connection. Later they will only work when they are hot and expanded completing the broken connections.

I had a similar problem on my 914 like this as well (but not temp dependent), turned out that one of the connecter was not seeting well due to the constant tinkering that I did to the car, a little bit on cleaning of the connectors and everything was as good as new.

if you are experienced with electronics, take out the ECU and remove the circuit board and check for nonstandard solder joints and repair.

I have tried that but it did not work

Once the rap gets cold it hold in the cold air.

I was thinking that but I dont know a trust worthy person to fix it. I cant send it off either( it's my daily driver).

For the time being you could always get a bottle heater and go turn it on on colder days a few minutes before you start the car, that would solve the immediate problem. The best solution would be to find a salvage ECU which hopfully will work, looking for solder failure is a serious pain in the butt, on the other hand a local electronic repair shop, (yes they stilll exist) could very easily go over the board for you in a ew minutes for a nominal charge.
