Default non-vtec to vtec?

I have a 97 EK civic with the D16Y non vtec. I think its a D16Y.

Anyway can anyone tell me if the Vti (Aus/Jap) model, 1.6 SOHC vtec's internals are transplantable into my non-vtec model?

What would be my options. Or should I do a B series swap?

Thanks

what would be the best B series engine to put in my civic in terms of fitting to existing componentry?

a B18C i figure would mean i'd need a front cut, coz i'd need the other parts.

Having only ever done minor work to cars. This would be a first. where would i need to start?
