VAFC trouble
Ok me and a friend installed my VAFC on my 98 GSR 2 weeks ago and I'm having some trouble with it. First of all, I get a Check Engine Light that is not very consistent. It will come on only when I floor it at around 7k RPMs. It turns off after I turn off the car so when I start the car again, it doesn't come on until I floor it again. However, the last 3 days it has stayed on and doesn't turn off. When I plug in my Skunk2 ECU (Chipped obd1 P28) the light does not come on.
That's 1 of the problems I have.
The other problem I have is that there seems to be some sort of rev limiter at around 4800 RPMs. I cannot rev past 4800 RPMs! It just bounces when I step on the pedal. This does not happen every time and it's also very inconsistent. It will happen one day and then the next day it would be fine. Sometimes it will come on (the "rev limiter") and then go away while I'm still driving. Hmmm what the **** could be the problem?
Looks like we did the installation correctly, we've double checked everything and even used a couple online installation instructions. Anyone know what's up?

1) Did you insulate your soldered/crimped/tapped wires with electical tape?
2) Did you insulate your one free-ended wire thats not hooked up to anything with electrical tape?
3) Did you lean out your engine with the VAFC? If so, you could be pre-detonating if your timing is advanced.
I was having the same problem you are having with my VAFC on my OBD-II.5. I did these three things and the problem went away. I backed off my timing, insulated my connections a little better with electical tape, and I never saw this problem again. Good luck.
