Using excel to calculate tq from hp and mph?
I have a graph like this:
I've heard that you can make a table in excel and use a formula to calc the tq into a graph. Anyone know how to do this???
thanks,
b

Torque = ( HP / RPM ) * 5252
That gives torque in lbf-ft. Trouble is, you (probably) don't know the engine RPM at any given road speed. You could look for specifications (rpm/mph) for the M3, & guess which gear the M3 was in during that test... unless the M3 had an automatic tranny.

if you own the car, you could drive it in the gear used, hold it at a constant speed, and look at the tachometer. then use the mph and rpms to find a multiplier.
that's prolly a third gear pull. diff is 3.23:1 for '96-99 and '95 LTW ('95 was 3.15:1 otherwise), third gear is 1.66:1. rear tires are 245-40-17 for '96-99 and 235-40-17 for all '95.
using this info and the torque to hp conversion provided above, you can create a torque vs. rpm plot.
