it's really not the setup that's bad, it's the owner how they drive it.

the reason it's bad imo is ls were design not to rev hard and vtec ofcouse revs hard, and oil pressure is lower, so is the pan it's smaller. and no piston oil cooler. not too good for all motor I guess, i build them only for turbo so I never really had a n/a ls/v. all my ls/v's put over 300 stock block. never had a problem because I only rev to 7k max. BUT ALL THIS IS MY OWN OPTION

the pans are the same and oil pressure isnt lower..

this topic has been beaten to death and back.. search

btw i drive my ls/vtec daily and am making reliable constant power, oil pressure is the same as my old gsr and a friends ls/vtec

given mine is ls crank and rods in the gsr block, i know countless others who drive and abuse their ls/vtec's jsut like any b-series engine, as long as it is built right and with quality parts you will be fine.

i'd look twice about pans, and oil pressure....
i'm sure the ls blocks have lower oil pressure than vtec blocks

my bad the pans are sliiiightly difference due to different oil pickup locations and the block girdle found on the gsr/type r

butttt a gsr pan will work with a ls block but not vice versa

ps- oil pressure is the same... its a sealed system and stays pressurized, ls/vtec only need external oil line for extra oil needed for the vtec head to function correctly.

the three motors i just said ive dealt with have been checked for pressure at the head and block so maybe they are jsut freak motors with abnormal readings

again with proper parts and all clearences in factory tolerances there is no reason a ls/vtec motor should suffer from negative effects whether it be from "revving high" or "low oil pressure"

yes they will work, but are NOT the same.....you can ask one of my customer who came in with a 600hp ls/tec SETUP that had a gsr oil pickup tube with a ls oil pan... what do you think happen after 5 mins of idle on the dyno?

as i said in my post, you can use the gsr oil pickup/pan with an ls block but not an ls pickup with gsr pan

you have to keep in mind, your using a vtec block with ls internals.....your not using a FULL ls block.

btw you mention that after i've posted that they are different.

yea your right, i posted that they were different then you said they were again, rather than assuming and going by the two pans i have held, i went and looked up part numbers and then searched about the issue to find up in fact they were different.

i havent argued they were the same since i actually looked into it, so thank you i knwo a little more than i did and it was you who got me to look. lol

and i gave the example of engine one (mine gsr block)

example two a friends ls/vtec (ls block gsr head)

and a stock gsr

all engines had engine oil pressures in stock tolerances and measurments were taken off the block and heads with different gauges at different times.

no ones knocking what you said or your work..

its a forum to learn and ask for help... im also jsut post about what the OP asked the ups and downs of the ls/vtec

my experiences have been with honda spec clearances and quality work and parts that the ls/vtec will perform just as well if not better than stock setup engines.

yes you are correct sir about "ls/vtec will perform just as well if not better than stock setup engines" if done right with the RIGHT parts. IMO I just don't think it's safe for a "LS" block to do high revs as i've seen two brake a rod.at 8+k rpms..lolz....

sorry bro I was not trying to sound rude back to you....... -1 for me....

its all good man no hard feelings at all.

all engines are not created equally and wit the proper issues addressed a ls block can see high revs all day long,

im using ls rods with the gsr sized arp rod bolts and arp head studs (stock girdle, gsr block ) and my rotating assm. was balanced and micropolished

same setup is in my friends (my old engine) using ls block and we both rev to 8500 with zero issues

it is a must for a reliable ls/vtec to run the larger ARP rod bolts if using stock pistons, the gsr girdle can be made to fit as well as companies like z10 that make main girdles for ls blocks

everythings in the quality of parts and the build and a competant engine builder,

and of corse a GOOD tune goes a long way
