underdrive crank pulleys?? need help.
I have been cracking the ac hose that comes of the compressor, i have had it replaced 3 times. I first thought it could be the front solid mount, but this has happened before I had the mount installed. Maybe the aggressive ACT clutch is to blame?? nahhh.
I took it to a shop and they brought it to my attention that the car vibirates ALOT when the engine revs. It vibrates alot, you put your hands on top of the valve cover and you can feel its not normal. I did not worry about the engine because it pulls hard and feels strong. They mentioned it could be the balance shaft, i droped the car off and when I called, they told me that the motor was out and they dropped the crank and sent it to check/get balanced?? I was like wtf?? My heart dropped into my stomach.
Anyways, to make a long story short, the crank is fine. Its the underdrive crank pulley needs replacing. I was thinking while its being replaced has anyone heard anything about the unorthodox racing underdrive crank pulleys??? Is it good or bad??
Is it worth it???
The difference in weight is crazy.
Stock is 5.4lbs and the Unorthodox Racing is 1.6 lbs!!
I need advice, I want my baby back!!
I miss her.
I have a 97 Accord W/H22A

If your pulley is bad...replace it with a OEM. Aftermarket pulleys...if unbalanced can cause vibration, which you seem to already have. It can cause damage to your bearings.
This is what happens in less than 10,000 miles when using a LW undampened pulley on a motor that is designed to use on.
BTW the bearings came from a D16Z6 SOHC VTEC.

Sorry about the X.
I ran out of room on my server and deleted it. I had taken 200+ pics Saturday at the dragstrip. I hope to have new/more freespace running soon.
BTW I'll send it to you via email.

I believe that is why AEM does not make an underdrive pulley for the crank. The OEM pulley is an integral part of the crank balancing and they don't recommend removing that one.

If you have the crank out already, then get the Unorthodox and have the whole assembly professionally balanced. I ran the Unorthodox triple pulleys from 75k miles to 90k miles on my GSR without having the assembly balanced, then took the whole bottom end apart, and inspected the bearings. They looked PERFECT! Not only that, but they looked like they came from a motor with only 50k miles.
I did my bottom end work and had the whole assembly balanced and it runs just great! I wouldn't pay too much attention to those that insist you use the OEM pulley because of harmonic balancing... That's 50's & 60's American muscle car theory and is totally outdated when dealing with today's high-precision Honda engines.

Wrong MAX.........
even when balanced, a long stroke motor will need a dampener. The D series 1.6L fits this perfect. Most B series came without a dampener ring and they are OK to run a LW pulley. Put that 2 lbs you save on the pulley is only the same as .66 lbs save on a LW flywheel.
BTW the 50-60 muscle car theory's are what are fueling you 4 popper.
AEM? The idea of the "ram effect" was via Mopar/Chrysler. Same way with the NACA ducting used on most race cars.
