Default Unbolting the muffler.

What kind of gains can be realized by unbolting the muffler from the cat back? I'm talking about for both N/A and Turbo engines. I know this is a popular "power mod" for both mullet boys and rice boys. Just wondering if it actually does anything, or is it mainly for sound. TIA

On the dyno with a ITR muffler on my car, i gained 3whp throughout most of the powerband. Good for the track, but you wont even notice it in everyday driving.
