Ultimate F'n madness....talkin In-SaNiTy here.
I was perusing the motorsports websites and came across a racing modification done a long time ago. was wondering how this could be done to a honda block...so the story first....and the question last after it. enjoy.
For hopefully an unfiar advantage in the SCCA's DSR, open top full bodied small sports racers, a man named Red LeGrand CUT....thats right...CUT a cosworth 4 cyl in half!......2-cylinders remained....he cut the crank...and the cams....etc. even the head. patched up the open side and went racing. the rules in DSR specified a set displacement limit that regelated the engine choices to motorcycle engines (low power of the day). Red concluded that 2-cylinders of a high powered car enginewould fit the displacement rules....and have the power to win....(.they were hoping to supercharge it too) after it was cut and patched up they actually saw a nice running engine that was flexible and stable and revved happily and freely. their plan was to supercharge it after they got the custom parts done to handle it.
they never got to see the full power output they wanted cause the parts places making the final pieces they needed for that last step of the development.....closed...and they never got the parts....reportedly as its running now in the vintage races, it runs nice and makes power beyond 10,000 rpm..its just in its N/A form. there wont be any supercharging on it.
NOW THE BIG Q:
given the rules now, (620CC turbocharged or supercharged) it still could be an unfair advante to do this with a B16 or B18...even a D15/16/17....
(because turbocharging a 600 bike motor....well, youll shread the gearsets, and its not even beefy enough. itll grenade after a whort while or melt internally soon after starting a race) A B-engine is proven to hold up to boost....very well. and given the 110 octane this class runs....well....cutting a B-motor with a smaller stroke...boost it up to 25 or 30psi should give enough power....specially with a roller cam kit and 12k rpm. can the cut itself be done?
would make one hell of a story if someone could do it and make it work.
(youre gonna spend $2500 on a stroke/rod/piston kit anyway)

That's kinda crazy, and I find it hard to believe.......but I've heard of crazier.
You'd have to check the rules of whatever event you are running to see if it will be legal.

Re: (LudeyKrus)
oh its legal...the rules state (turbocharger/supercharged engine displacement limit: 620cc)...thats it. nothing else to limit you. the class is as close to unlimited as you can get....just with a few parameters limiting engine size....the rules lean towards bike motors but you can run anything you want....and im thinking the reliability of the honda parts in handling big power.....would be the advantage over the bike motors....and the turob would be the other advantage.
