Default Type R Cold Air Intake

i always wondered if you had a type r cold air intake which is 3" (which is 76.2 mm) going into a 60mm throttle body wouldnt that be pointless?? wouldnt an ls intake work just as well seeing how its 2.5" (63.5). They are going into the same size opening(60mm)? so does the type r intake really make a diffrence?

Just more air crammed into that 60mm tb, I'd take one over my ls aem cai. I think it would be better than my 3" Samco arm (3") with velocity stack.

No it does not make it pointless. You can see benefits of the extra 0.5" in the intake pipping.
