Default turning a honda crank?

ok, i have heard the rumors about how you cannot turn a crank to clean it up BUT WHY? is there a real reason or "it just cant be done" what would happen IF you did? i have access to the over sized bearings so i think i may take one for the team? doubt it tho... All answeres appreciated.

I remember reading an article on the B18C motor when it came out and them describing the coating on the crank journals that held oil better than plain steel to increase the load capacity of the bearing surface. I don't know if they used it on any other cranks though.
