make sure your fan is working, check you coolant level, do a block test, check for obstructions in front of the radiator (i.e. a plastic grocery bag). lots of things can cause overheating, we need more details like whenit does it, will it return to normal at idle or highway speeds, whats your weather like, y/m/m, etc

In addition to those good ideas you'll want to check the fins on the radiator and test your oil pressure. Inadequate lubrication can increase heat and lead to much worse problems.

the fan works its almost always on. it overheats during traffic and during the really hot days when flooring it. it will only cool down once i start to turn on the heat. the oil pressure is solid.

Stock rad doesnt matter, if everything is working rights they work fine....I had a stock eg rad in my fully built da...

If all those things check out you may need to check your headgasket

Did you have the head surface prepped or just pick it up and slide the new one in? Obviously not that simple but no machine work at all. Are you using OEM headbolts or studs? How well is your setup tuned? maybe you are flat out generating more heat than your system has the capacity to handle.

A blown HG causing overheating will show obvious problems with the cooling system like reservoir bubbling and quickly losing coolant. If you don't have either of those problems, test the temperature of the head, block, top and bottom of the radiator with a laser thermometer. Make checks when the fan comes on and when the motor gets hotter, being careful not to let it get too hot. Post the temps.

i had import sports put on the new head gasket along with the stock head bolts. i changed heads because my other head failed due to a broken oil pump. i had that al fixed and changed the head but with the same model head. i havent had it tuned since i had the old head

Check the hose that feeds coolant into the motor for any rips/punctures. Is your overflow tank cracked? Look for the obvious.

well if you keep having to add coolant to it then there is a leak somewhere.....or when it over heats its boiling over and overfilling the resevoir and spilling onto the ground.

What brand slim fan are you running? if its an el cheapo then that might be your problem.

mainly because of this post

the fan works its almost always on. it overheats during traffic and during the really hot days when flooring it. it will only cool down once i start to turn on the heat.
obviously if the pump was the culprite then it would do it all the time, not just when getting on it or stuck in traffic. but the fact that it comes back down after turning on the heat tells me that the coolant is circulating but if the tstat is stuck shut then that might be the problem.

stick with an oem temp doesnt matter which brand. they're easy enough to change if it goes bad in a year
