Tuning B16a2 for NO2.....need some pointers...12's possible???
I have the following....
B16a2
(1998 Civic EX Coupe)
75shot ZEX nitrous....
(first time) drag strip:
E.T. 13.8
MPH 102
60' 2.21
all on CAI, swap, and ZEX 75shot..
i was wondering if it would be possible to build this motor for nitrous and 12 second timeslips? would i need to build the bottom end? would a 100shot do it?
sorry, i am still learning about nitrous!
thanks,
mike

Sure it's possible.
You'll definitly need to build your botom end if you plan on boosting 100+ shot.
Since your block is going to be out, you may want to consider a 1.8 or 2.0 block. These will get you much more torque, and you can use the extra displacement. Your call though.
I'd also consider a wet or direct port nitrous kit. A dry shot is not the best when your talking about huge tuning and huge shots.
What I would do:
1.8 block with MILD N/A or nitrous build-up.
120 shot direct port nitrous.
Nice nitrous cams.
Slicks and some weight reduction.
12's here we come... Haha just me though.

12s are possible with direct port, pistons and rods. If you plan on hitting 12s, i would definitally go direct port though.
yea direct port, and you dont *NEED* to build your block for a 100 shot if and ONLY IF you have a good fuel setup and have spent time on the dyno to make sure it wont lean out.
remember though if you are planing to do nitrous you will need a bigger fuel pump that is one of peoples biggest mistakes nitrous spikes fuel pressure so you need more fuel to make it work especially with bigger shots .. good luck
so could I use my current DRY ZEX kit setup? how would i get a 100hp shot? what pins do i need? zex didn't have them listed on their site!
thanks again!,

p.s. would a walbrogh in-tank 255lph and a VAFC to tune in more fuel be a good setup for 100shot? SAFELY?

Here is my 100 shot dp ZEX setup:
ZEX bottle > ZEX brain (w/ NX #28 fuel jet) > Extended 3AN (I think) Steel braided nitrous feed line > NOS distribution block > #3 hard brake line > four NOS single fogger nozzles (each w/ NOS #24 nitrous jet)
For fuel you will want to use either #28 or #26. Call ZEX and ask them what size jet to use to achieve a 100 shot. I think that they are runnin a 125 shot on their CRX.
The walbro 255 h/o will be fine. In fact, I dont think you can get much better unless you go with an all-out serious pump.

i think the nitrous supply line is actually -4an, unless u are talking the one from the brain to the jets.
thanks!,

so I can run a 100 shot without blowing my engine with the Walbro??

do you have a pic of your setup?
thanks,

p.s. does this mean i have to permanantely modify the head of me engine? or IM for Direct port?
thanks again,

No, not of mine, but I can get some.
This is kinda what I followed, here, except this is for a wet setup and mine is dry. The difference is that I have single fogger nozzles instead of those Y looking ones.
Also, mine is underneath....sssssshhhhhhh!! Kind of a PIA to change out jet, but I dont plan on changing them everyday.
Its not modifying the head, but the IM. No it will not be permanent either; you could either plug the holes back up with a brass plug or have somebody that can weld aluminum to weld the holes up.

so are 12's possible u think with this? or just 12's on slicks/drag radials?

If Mista Bone on here can hit 13.09 with a D16Z6 and 85 shot then I should be able to eat 12's for an appetizer, but I dont think that I can hit it on street tires because of traction problems. :shrugs: I dont know, maybe I can hit 12's on street tires with enough practice and the right conditions. I really dont know what to expect.
