Default Tuning?

Ok if anyone out there can please clear this up for me. What exactly is "tuning" I know I sound really really stupid but I have no idea, im reading things like tuning the ECU and fuel and like you need a the ECU to be chipped in order to use hondata but I thought hondata was a chip. I have no idea, sl basically if anyone can clear up "tuning' and hondata for me I would be so happy, thank you. Yes I searched and found nuthing.

tuning is exactly what it sounds like: tuning the engine to get the most power/performance/efficiency as possible. this may include changing the timing, reprogramming the ECU to remove the speed limiter, raise the rev limiter and adjusting the air/fuel mixture. why not do a search on here for "tuning"? on older cars, it may be as simple as timing and adjusting the carburetor.

anytime you have a question, search till your fingers bleed. then ask questions to fill in the gaps. http://www.google.com comes in handy as well.

thank you, thats kinda what I figured tuning was, I thought it was more complicated than that, so all id have to do is setup the engine then tow it to a tuner, then have him adjust things to make it drivable. Thanx

if you have any planned bolt-ons [header/muffler/intake manifole/etc] do those first, then get the car dyno-tuned. as the name implies, it's where you set the car on a dyno and they tune it till you have the best power curve you can with your setup.
