Hondata Tuning Software Intercompatibility
I have some what of a basic question.. ( just getting into the car tuning)
I am looking into which platform to use for tuning my cars plus several cars for friends. I noticed people are saying that hondata is better but it looks more of a closed market type deal. Hondata owns the chip and the software and it seems like they want you to only use each ecu on one car
[(crome and such you can make a chip to put in a socketed ecu for a friend or client)correct me if I am wrong please!]
This is my main question:
- Can hondata tune files in skl format be used (or changed) into a file format that works on more of an open system like crome or something?
The reason is because I am trying to tune multiple cars and it wouldn't make sense to spend $500 on an ECU that can only program one car. **I want to take the ecu and tune several cars and the cars after tuned will only need a socketed ecu**

The only software you can openly tune on multiple cars and not have issues with having to buy a per car license is crome.
Alright thanks. That means you can't even convert the Hondata tune files into something that you can export into crome and use that file.... ?
It wouldn't do you any real good to convert the tune over to some other base code and not use the hondata base code.
Well I figured that you could move the code into crome and then apply it to a chipped ecu (seems like neptune with demon will allow you to do that), so in that case you wouldn't have to buy the $495 s300 for that particular car- you could just go with a chipped ecu, while using the s300 only for the dyno tune itself. Does that make sense?
It won't work. Neither will Neptune. The only way to burn chips with Neptune is if you had the Dealer license. Which I'm sure JR will not sell to just anyone.

Free version of Crome you can tune as many cars as you want if you have all the hardware plus the software. Crome pro is the same but you'll have to purchase the license. Like I said you can only burn chips with Neptune if you have the dealer version, not the regular.
This way I could use the hondata ecu to tune another car. I didn't want that ecu to commit to one car only. From my take on this I need to use the Moates demon and Chrome pro. I have seen that Crome and the demon are compatible and I could also export the tune files into a chipped ecu as well.
Am I correct on this?
