Default Troubleshooting: Low Idle (pretty in depth)

1999 B18C1 in 1996 Civic Ex. intake, header, axle back, clutch, flywheel, VAFC. NOTE: the VAFC settings have been the same thru winter till current.

Ok, since Ive had the motor, my idle has been between 1200-1600rpms till it warms up (gradually going down as it warms). All winter (Ohio) it ran fine and the idle was high until it warmed and then it idled fine around 780ish rpms.

Now that the weather has turned warmer (50-70 F) I idle around 690-720 and occasionally it idles fine. I feel a strong lag up until about 2700 rpms then it pulls nicely. It never did this when it was cold and the settings are untouched.

Another note is I am cat-less and OBD2 so I know Im running lean because of the second O2 reading rich and the plugs dont tell any lies (nice and white). This has been this way since last summer and I am in the process of OBD2-1.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc? Thanks ahead of time!

What temperature is your thermostat? & where is your ignition timing set at?

Another thing to verify as well, is check where your idle screw is. You could raise it a little, as well as make sure there is no air bubbles in your water system.

You can burp the system by taking off the radiator cap, and letting the engine warm up with the radiator cap off, making sure the coolant level is high enough (also running 50/50 coolant/water), and no air bubbles in the system.

That should take care of the problem, but if the problem persists, keep this thread up top.

good luck. HTH.
