I have a 1994 honda civic dx with a 1.5 liter engine and automatic transmission.
about a week ago my car started acting funny. It would start idling really weird at stop lights and it would want to move even though the breaks were held and sometimes the engine would die while doing that. And sometimes i would just be slowly coming to a stop and the car would stumble and die. Well the other day i was cruising down the road and it was like my car just went to nuetral but i was still in gear. I tried 3rd,then 2nd, then 1st but it was still as if the car was in nuetral. I turned the car off and turned it back on and i had all my gears back and it worked fine. That only lasted for about a half hour. It started doing that like crazy. I would just be cruising down the road and my tranny would literally just stop working as if i bumped the shifter *** into nuetral or something. I would just turn it off turn it back on and be able to go another 2 miles or so. If I let the car sit for 3 hours I can drive it for 5-10 minutes problem free then it starts doing it again. I know what slipping tranny's feel like...this is not slipping. It is functioning perfectly well then all of the sudden it just gives out. for the idle problem you might wanna give the Iac valve a try. my girlfriends 92 lx was doing the same problem and it ended up being the iac valve. it's located on the back of the throttle body. change that out and it should be good. as for the tranny, you may wanna check the fluid it may be running low, or even a simple fluid change would be good. if that's not the problem you may wanna check the torque converter.
