Default Transmission help.

Can someone help me identify the gears in the transmission. I got the tranmission and supposedly the 1st gear synchro is bad, but I don't know what's what. Please identify what you can in the photo. Thanks.

Thanks for all your help. Just a few more questions. If I wanted to change a gear, do I have to change both the countershaft gear and the mainshaft gear? Also, if I need to replace a synchro, what part to I change?? The tranny you are looking at is a spare, but I have another one that has a bad 3rd gear synchro. Do I change the "brass" gear on the synchro (#10 in picture)??

that depends on what you're doing.... if you are for example, swapping your stock 5th for an LS 5th, then YES you would need both main shaft and counter shaft gears. otherwise the gears would not fit together because the gears are different sizes and have a different # of teeth as well.

if you were just replacing your stock gear for another stock gear, then the answer is NO.

the 'synchros' that most people refer to are the BRASS RINGS like you said. but if at all possible, it would be a good idea to replace the synchro HUB and SLIDER/SLEEVE because the teeth on these pieces are just as important as on the brass rings, and they wear out as well.
