Trans pops out of 2nd gear - Tips & input needed
My friend's Civic is grinding 2nd gear and also pops out of 2nd on deceleration. We are thinking on taking the tranny out and replacing the gear and sychro. How difficult is that and does anybody have any tips for this job. Are there any special tools needed etc. Anything you guys can think of.

Yes I'm a D tranny GOD!
Not necessarily my 3rd gear does it and it's b/c of a bad syncro you know how bad Honda's 3rd is.

Blown90hatch, Do you know which bearing was bad on your wifes Integra? Have you fixed it? Didn't you have anything else worn internally? Please give me as many details as you can, I think we have the same problem.

Also, what year is the car? if its a cable D tranny, its probably cheaper to just buy an entire used trans than splitting the case and putting new parts in. Just dont buy a tranny from Blown90Hatch cuz it'll grind 3rd

Relax 93LSivic gear oil level is good.
Keep in mind that in my 19 year exp. w/ used cars, I have never had just one gear grinding or poping out because of low gear oil. Keep in mind that all other gears are ok!
Trust me, I buy, test drive & diagnose over 300 cars a year as part of my job, and I have to do it within 60min, and I do it pretty well, sometime as many as 21 in one day at an auction selling 9000 cars in 6 hrs.
What I want to find out is if someone has had a simillar problem and they know exactly what was wrong with theirs.
I'm sure my roomates problem is internal, I promise to post pictures once appart and maybe you can learn something too.
I think, I agree with you, as one of my prof. in college said " Ignorance is the enemy" and I think in this case is more yours than mine.
Wait for the pictures!

(This is for 93LSivic)
I'm glad your dad has been doing it for 25 yrs. and he's probably good at it. But I think you said you did it for 8-10 yrs on and off.
My quess is probably more off than on, and when on, you probably didn't pay much attention from what I gather from your writtings.
Gear internals on FWD and RWD are very much the same and the idea behind the design is the same. The major difference is that FWD has also the differencial in it, where the on RWD is a separate unit.

96+ Civics use steel shifterforks which I'll be test fitting soon into 5g trannys.
No more broken forks, and with KAAZ no more broken diffs.
Guess I'll finally be able to launch my Z6 at 8,000 rpm.

It sounds like a bad bearing. My wifes integra is doing that = bad bearing.
We took the trans apart and found the mainshaft bearing has come apart.
All gears look ok so we took it to a machine shop for a second opinion.
I'll post more details as I get them.
On another note what happened to your "Mickey" picture 93LSivic?
Glad to see you changed it, I think it was very immature!
Blown90hatch was correct.

I'm really sorry that I have exposed your weakness.
I think you know a few bits and pieces of a very big picture.
You see, experienced, smart and knowledgeable people can see through that.
If there is anything you can learn from this experience is this:
Please be carefull with your advice. You are very inexperienced and not very knowledgeable about cars and probably very young.
Use this forum to read and learn from people that know a lot more than you and keep in mind there are plenty of them here.
Try to learn one thing everyday and hopefully before long you will be where you think you are now.
Also please try to remember that the purpose of this forum is to learn, through the sharing of experiences both possitive and negative. It's not for running your mouth and acting like you know something, in order to make your self feel important when perhaps you are not.

Ok, in order to help you, I took most of it out, hopefully this time you will read it and actually understand it!
Now I know why your Daddy couldn't teach you about transmissions. It's called attention defeciency syndrom.
All humans are born with it. Most of us get over it at a very young age (under 10). Some are still working on it and some can't get over it (due usually to lower than normal brian activity).
