Default '90 Civic PGM carburetor

Hello Guys,

I'm new on this list.
I living in Hungary and I bought a '90 Civic with PGM carburetor
(D13B21005494) and I have some question about it.
May I get answers here or I should find the right mailing list somewhere else ?

Thanks,

Zoli

Default '90 Civic PGM carburetor

1, So, I have a book about repairing and maintenancing Civic's, but it not contains
enough informations about the PGM Carburetor.
I would like to know how can I properly set up this type of engine because
I think that mine is not set up properly.
I found some days ago when I started the engine at morning (about -2C°
ambient temperature) that it starts at a high rpm (too high in my opinion) and
after a while the rpm dropped and later the rpm dropped to "normal" (is this
staged rpm drops are normal ?). And a little bit later the rpm slowly lowered
and the engine almost stoped but the rpm increased again.
Anyway I cleaned the windows (ice) while these happend in neutral.
Another thing is that the fuel cosumpion is too high (about 10L/100km), the
acceleration is bad (compared to my previous '86 Civic 1.5 Carb.) and I
sometimes experiencing "dropouts" in acceleration.
(I replaced all oils, valve-gear belt and spark plugs)
So I need informations (step-by-step instructions) about how to find what's
wrong and how to setup this PGM Carburetor engine.

2, Is there any possibility to change cylinder head (and some additional elements)
to convert the engine to dirict injection type ? (what about the cylinder head,
cylinder sizes, crank and crankshaft load ? The hole is the same, as I know,
but what about the stroke ?) Or is it better to change the whole engine ?

Thanks in advance,

Zoltan Perhacs

So, noone can help me ???

Anyway, the PGM carburetor is used from '90 in Civic 1.3 import models.
It is a normal carburetor plus many other elements (including lambda sensor,
air control valve, many "baroswitches" and a computer).

Zoli

There isn't much you can do with a carb like that. The fast idle spec for my carb is 3000 rpm +/- 500 rpm. So if it's around 3000 rpm when the engine is cold, that's where it should be. Have you replaced or checked the distributer cap and rotor lately?

No, I not checked it yet because it is very cold here now and I don't have
a garage. But I will...
