TrannyB16...final drive
just some questions about trannys....
Whats the final drive ratio in GSR trannys?
Can the JDM final drive kit fit into the B16 trans? some people say the kit will only fit the GSR and or ITR cases.??
How many people have had the B16 differential blow on them during like normal driving...and some light drag racing on street tires?

i can answer the first one.
All manual trannies from GSR's have a 4.400 final drive.
ITR, 94' and up LS, and the JDM Y1 are the only ones that have a different final.

JDM ITR/CTR had 4.78's, 90-01 LS had 4.266, All other B-series (including USDM ITR's) had 4.40's. From what I heard the JDM FD kit is made to work with the JDM CTR/ITR LSD and ring gear and you would have to use a JDM ITR/CTR ring gear and LSD in order for everything to work I believe. Also if it's a S1 cable tranny you have to modify the bell housing to get everything to work because it's too small. Not 100% sure about later ones. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

correction:90-93' GS/LS/RS 's have the 4.400 FD.
94' and up GS/LS/RS 's have the large 4.266 FD.

the jdm will fit in any 92+ tranny, for the 94+ gsr and Tpye R trannies it will drop right in because the ring gear bolts up to the diffd in both . The ring gear from jdm final kit will not bolt onto the LS/B16a/B17a GSR because those have a different bolt pattern, you will need either a GSR from 94+ open diff or a Type R diff or aftermarket for GSR/Type R such as KAAZ, ATS, Mugen, Spoon, Cusco, etc.

there might be some missleading info on some of the "revised" sites. Specs are long forgotten on the old cable trannies (Especially the JDM S1/J1 & 90-93'Tegs). Here is what I have for 90-93' RS/LS/GS's..1 3.166
2 1.857
3 1.259
4 0.935
5 0.742
Final 4.400
I have both the JDM S1, and 90-93' RS/LS/GS. I'll be pulling both apart pretty soon. I'll count the teeth and use Counter/Main = ratio. I'll prove everyone wrong, or myself

that's cool. the 88-91 SiR's also had S1/J1 tranny's in them, but with lower ratios. In comparing them to a Y21, same final drive, little be shorter 1st, little longer 2nd, little longer 3rd, little longer 4th, but they 5th gear was super short like .906. And everyone thought the 92-93 GSR .875 5th was the shortest.
I'm sure there's probably shorter but anyone have a 88-91 SiR 5th gear lying around they wanna sell me?

You could use the ATS final drive for the SIR civic, in a SI or LS tranny. The FD's are different SI vs LS but the bolt pattern on the ring and diff are the same. Cheetah is right, in order to run a JDM fd you would need a gsr or type r diff.
