tranny snap ring
there is a snap ring on the tranny case that snaps into the out put shaft bearing. How do you get it back on. I have open the rings and push down on the case and its just not going down. How do you guys do it.
I got it so its on the bearing just on the tip of it and now the ring is expanded all the way. I can lift up on the bearing just a little bit but not enough for the snap ring to click in.

once you place the upper tranny case, you'll notice that the case will slide down but it will stop short of closing completely. using a needle nose plyers, or a snap ring pliers spread that snap ring on the countershaft bearing. once you do this, push down on the case until the snap ring gets stuck open on the bearing. you can push down on the case to fully close it, if it does not fully close use both hands to hold both halfs of the case from separating and tilt the tranny until the countershaft slides down and the snap ring locks in place. before you do all this, make sure you coat the edge of the tranny case with hondabond! good luck!

what gear is the tranny in? When i took my ys1 apart I have having a hell of a time getting the case to go down that last couple mm. I took the case off again and went through the instructions in the helms again to double check. I'd done everything right, except for about 4 or 5 steps back it had said to put the tranny in 4th gear....it didn't seem to be important for that step so I didn't bother. But this time I figured i'd try anything. Shifted it into 4th....and bam, case slid right over, with ease even
Sounds strange but flip the tranny over onto the side that has the snap ring.....and gently drop it a few times. Usually the bearing will slide down along with the gear shaft and the ring will fall into place. Old trick the Dr. showed me. Works everytime. Good luck.
That's kinda what we did. Just let the tranny fall onto the wood planks a couple of times and it made its way into the groove after we had the clip around the bearing sleeve.
Make sure that the main shaft oil guide plate (plastic) is not off to the side being squished by the bearing. If you don't have the ring snap on with the case bolts in , something is very wrong, take it apart again.
