Tranny Problem
First I want to say hi and I have been watching this site for a long time and I now have a question that can’t be answered.
A couple weeks ago I swapped in a b16a (second generation) and well here is the story. I accidentally put automatic transmission fluid in the transmission and after realizing this (without driving the car) I flushed the system and my reverse gear doesn’t work. I think this is because it’s the farthest gear in the transmission. What could have happened? This is just odd I mean it just will not go into gear, I try and slam it into reverse and it just won’t go, like there is a physical block there. Then if I try to take it out of where reverse should be its difficult to get it back to neutral, once its back into neutral its fine though. It goes into every other gear perfect, no problems with anything else. Just this. Is my transmission hosed? (I have also checked the shift linkage and it’s clear, not hitting anything)

how far did you go on with the auto tranny fuild, and what did you use for shifter linkage. Part zone calls for Auto tranny fluid in honda manual trannys, so you should be OK but in the future ONLY USE HONDA FLIUD
i didnt drive it anywhere, i towed it somwhere but it was in neutral
im using the del sol vtec shift linkage.
so if i flush it a couple more times i should be ok? what if i still dont have reverse?
and yea, i now know to only use honda MTF.
on me.

update: i finally got around to flushing it (once so far) and i think there is a little progress, heres what i did
drained the fluid, ran 1 qt of 10w 30 through, filled with 2 quarts of 10w 30 then prayed.
now when i try to put it in reverse there is this grinding (more like soft ticking) i think its the gears touching but its still not engaging.
im gonna run it for a week (200 miles) then switch to honda MTF
it should come back?
does anyone else have any suggestions? i really need it back!

I assume you are aware of all honda manual transmission's tendancy to not go into reverse unless you first select either 2nd or 4th? At least that's what I'm in the habit of doing after nearly 10 years of H cars.
Also, I can't see why the ATF would affect the operation/engagement of reverse. Was this the first time you used the tranny since it came off the boat? The reverse gear slides on a large shaft and is actuated by piece of steel that's shaped a lot like your thumb and index finger are when you illustrate the size of something relatively small with your hand.
If this is the first use of the tranny since coming off the boat, it's more likely that the mechanism itself has literally gotten a bit rusty. Most importers are in the habit of pressure washing motors and tranny's so they look like they are in good condition to the end user. I'll leave it up to your imagination how water gets in a loose tranny under these conditions.

have you driven it at all since the problem? my tranny started acting up a while back, then reverse went out just like how you described, then first went shortly after. I said fawk it, and drove it anyways with 2-3-4-5, and my reverse being me pushing it
. one day my gears just came back, who knows what happened there.
