Default tranny bearings bad?

when i am acclerating slowly in 1st and 2nd gear...i can hear sort of a roaring noise...sounds like a bad bearing...so at first i thought it was the wheel bearing..but i dont think it would only do it when accelerating if it was that....so i talked to a mechanic..and he said it could be the tranny case bearings? he also said to put some 90wt oil in and see if it helps quiet them. now i'm about to go outside and try the new oil...does anyone know if this will work? or if its bad for the tranny? or if maybe this isnt even my problem?

i hope it's the bearing becuz my tranny is doing the same thing. mine used to sound the same as yours, it's A LOT worse now. i've been driving around like this for over a month and racing a lot. i just don't care! although i'll be ***'ed out if it breaks.

Does it get worse or go away when you engage clutch?

Might just be your release bearing.

Do you hold your clutch in a lot?

i thought that was the problem so i changed it. it's still making the same noise. it's coming from the tranny itself!

Does it get louder when it's cold outside?

Did you remember to lube it?

Did you also remember lubricate the bearing as well? Haha, just joking around.

it goes away...i dont think its clutch related..because i dont hear the sound at idle...or in neutral...only when accelerating..im sure i COULD hear the sound in other gears if the exhaust wasnt so loud...so i really only hear the sound in 1st and 2nd...seems to get quieter the faster i go..

i tried using honda mtf..and it didnt make a difference...anyone have any other ideas? i asked the guy at the parts desk at the honda dealership about using 90wt oil..he said it would mess up the tranny..(probably bullshit so he could sell me the expensive mtf)...so i may try the 90wt stuff....

has anyone had experience with using 80 or 90wt gear lube in a honda tranny??? i really dont want to mess anything up..

If it's loudest in first and less so in the higher gears, it is probably the input shaft bearing. That would probably be the easiest to replace. Fixing it before it fails completely could save the rest of the transmission. I have not had any Honda transmissions apart so I don't know how bad it would be to fix.

yes..thats exactly what mine is doing..but its getting louder and louder daily...and im scared im gonna **** up the engine if there is too much play in the input shaft...how much does it normally cost to replace the bearing?..if the tranny is already out
