Tires Tires WTF Happened
I was riding on 95 and about 100 miles down the road, my tire started shaking like the lug nuts were loose or something. I pulled over, made sure everything was tight and got back in. When i started to drive, the problem got worse 20 feet down the road. I stuck my head out the window and noticed the tire wobbling. I pulled over AGAIN, slapped on the spare, and noticed the tire was warped. Anyhow, jumped in again, took off again, and 20 feet down the road AGAIN, the car had a serious pull towards the passenger side and I was getting that "wobbling" feeling again...The same thing happened to the passenger tire. WTF would cause this?
Your tires look like they are delaminating or coming apart in the belts and layers. They are not safe. Old tires are known to do this. Past punctures can come apart and I am sure a variety of reasons.
Assuming the lug nuts were fine, try jacking the car up so that both the front wheels are off the ground. Grab a tire and rock it back and forth (carefully obviously with the car on jacks). See if you can feel any play in anything. Try both sides.
Also good info. How old are your tires? I've never seen this happen before, but I usually replaces tires about 3 years max.
I have had it happen on old tires and on one old and previously punctured. There articles that talk about tires over, by memory, 6 yrs??? Many feel age is not very important on little used tires stored in controlled environment. Search old tires on the net.
Tire expiration article, many others available under old tires on the net.

You can check the date from a code on the tire. I do not remember how to do that, but you can easily find it by looking up manufacture date and code on the net. Could you have been overinflated or over pressured. That may contribute. If the tires are only 2 years old, purchased by you, and you can prove that, then you should get compensation of some sort for the defective tire. Even if you do not have a receipt, the seller may. I took mine back and they agreed that it was a defect in one case. One was many years old, like 14y, in a little used snow tire. This was beyond any guarantee. Do not volunteer about temperature or pressure, unless you know that you did something wrong. Many people drove on that hot day and did not have the defect.
a belt shifted in the tire, pretty common for old tires.. it was most likely cause to both wheels at the same time if you ran something over or went over a chopped up road
Ok. Thanks everyone for the quick replies. Drive4Fun, especially for the links to the articles. Didnt even fathom tires having an "expiration date". I bought them brand new like about 2 years ago from Pep Boys. They're Futura GLS tires. Plenty of rubber left as i dont drive the car on a regular..tires probably didnt have more than 10,000 miles on them at most, but the car HAS been sitting up for a while because I usually drive my truck, and the temperature was HELL HOT today, which i imagine would have been an attribute to their destruction...
