Default Tire advice

I have some Kelly tires (they were dirt cheap ) and I'm not sure what proper inflation I should use. The tires say the max psi is 45, and in my Civic door jamb it says 35 (I think). I've been putting in 40 psi, but I'm not sure exactly what psi I should use. Any ideas?

inflate to whatever it says on the tire. and keep in mind that is the COLD inflation rating. so if its hot, add a coulple PSI.

Umm, the number on the tire is max inflation. I don't think you want to do that. I'd go with what honda tells you to do on the door jamb, if your driving on the street. Maybe a couple extra psi to keep the sidewalls from flexing too much.

I inflated it at 35 (the door jamb recomendation) once and the front tires seemed very low. 40 psi cold seemed much better but I was afraid that when the tires heat it might go beyond 40 and could be dangerous

no it's max COLD inflation. big difference. the number on the sidewall takes into account the fact that the pressure will rise along with the temperture. It is safe to inflate them all the way up to that number.

tire pressure is the cheapest mod you can make to your suspension. play with it to get it where you like it. if you had the tires at 35 but like 40 better, by all means, run 40

If I fill the tires when they are cold to the max cold inflation stated on the tire (40), then would that be safe? I've read that you shouldn't do that, you should only inflate to what the door jamb says. But the ride feels mushy when I do that plus the tires look really low.

u shouldnt inflate it to what the psi says on the tire. i go with what the door jamb says. but the psi on the door jamb is for the tire size of the tire that came from the factory(stock size). if you're running different size then i dunno.

I had 185 65R 14 tires originally and have since put on 165 60R 14. They are H rated so I guess that's why they can hold 45 psi where the stock ones couldn't.
