Tips for removing 13 year old header bolts
I need to replace my stock header on my EM1. The last time this header has been off was 13 years ago in japan. I put my long socket wrench on them and they're on there pretty tight. Before I go wild and break off a bolt head and ruin my week, do you guys have any tips? I'm soaking them in PB blaster as I speak. I do have an electric impact wrench, breaker bar, and torch. Not sure which might be a better approach
Let them soak in PB for awhile then take out your biggest breaker bar and try. If they dont budge heat them up. If the heat doesnt work though it will help seize it even more when it cools.
IDK but to me something sounds inherently wrong about suggesting heat on an area that is susceptible to warpage due to heat.
WD-40 and Impact gun!!! I like to use impact if possible because it gives mostly Twist Force on the Bolt/Threads! You use a Breaker Bar and your putting ALOT of force on the Stud!
Heat helps most when there is Loctite involved to break the seal.

Thank you for the replies. I applied two doses of PB over a span of 2 hours, said a prayer, and wow, what a difference. They creaked off with the same long handled wratchet I used before, steady, but firm pressure, cold engine.
Next time you put any bolt or nut on the car use anti-sieze compound on the threads.
I have been doing that to all threads for years now. Even the lug nuts.

PB stands for a brand name called PB Wrench. They also have PB Blaster which is like a strong WD-40. The blaster has a nozzle that shoots the stuff out at a high pressure so it pretty much goes everywhere except where you need it. The stuff works good though. I still like 3-in-one oil...easier to control...2 drops and you're done.
