Default TIMING ISSUES....bad dizzy?

ok I am trying to time a friends 91 teg and when I jump the harness and throw a timing light on it I can't get it on time. Even if I put the distributer all the way advanced I can't get the red mark on with the mark on the cover. I took the distributer apart and there was a tag on it that said it was remanufactured. Just wondering if you guys think it is a bogus one?

That could be a possibility. I know hondas sometimes have a problem with mechanical advance sticking. To check that, hold the end of the dizzy shaft, and d turn the rotor to one side.. it should have slight play and return to it's normal position (spring back action).

If that's okay, maybe someone put your timing belt off a tooth.

checked cam timing and it appeared to be on. Timing marks didn't line strait up with strait edge but they didn't look off a tooth. Will check the electronic advance. I am thinking it is the distributer. The car really bogs down untill about 3,000 then feels normal.

It REALLY sounds like the belt is off a tooth. There is no mechanical or vacuum advance on that dizzy.

I have seen that before! It was the cap and rotor. We retarded the dizzy all the way back but the timing gun still said that it was advanced way over 18deg. Once we replaced the cap and rotor all was good again. I would get a new cap and rotor before u buy a whole distributor.
