Default Timing Question..

ok i picked up a eg with a z6 turbo that was tuned on crome blah blah..ok i noticed that on the dizzy it was turned all the way toward the car..i called the guy who built it and he said in the tune he added 2 degrees of timing and he had it at stock locaton on the dizzy..i checked the timing tonight to set it back right and when i looked for the timing arrow on the belt cover i couldnt find it..all i could see was a fork looking notch on the cover in which ive always known and saw hondas to have a thick line in the cover to line up the mark..so i just set the dizzy to the middle as close as i could until the time being i figure out whats up...im not a expert as tuning but im guessin setting the timing in the ecu would throw off my marks for the dizzy can anyone correct me or maybe my timing belt is off a tooth or 2 and someone set it to compensate the jump?

1. check that mechanical timing is correct first. (does it have adj cam gear or something?)
2. then check dizzy/ignition timing with the timing light.
3. then have the car re-tuned, just to safe.
