Default Timing belt problems

Okay so I got a car from someone that wasn't finished, just needed and engine harness and ecu no big deal. Well I got that taken care of and finally go to start it. When I did the timing belt started to walk. It's a b18b bottom end and a gsr head. I'm new to these and I was just wondering if anybody has had this issue either. Thanks!

theres a washer on the bottom crank that aligns the belt properly it shouldnt walk on you, some models the washer is built into the crank gear.

I would remove the lower covers so you can make sure everything is there, maybe repalce the belt while your in there? cheap insurance

the washer can bee seen on the bottom gear in pic below

Yes, I do know obd1 car have 2 which one is on the back side of the gear and on on the front. Would being too tight cause it to walk?

Possibly, its borderline impossible to make it to tight with OEM tensioner which is the only one I have experience with....what tensioner are you using?

yup, make sure the washers are on both sides of the crank gear, and make sure the tensioner is tight and has very little or no play, and the water pump doesn't have any play
