Default throttle postion sensor-what screw to adjust??

hello

Which screw do you adjust to alter the throttle position sensor/throttle idle position? Is it the screw where the throttle pulley hits at idle (the one the manual says is factory adjusted and should not be changed? It would seem it is this one. Please help!

thanks

So its not the idle adjust screw at the top of the tb near the intake then? Its the one as I described that keeps the throttle from going any further against the throttle body? the one the rotor/cable assembly hits?

tightening the throttle cable for better pedal response ur talking about?

no. i am talking about adjusting things so the tps reads correct voltage and the idle is smooth. How and where do you adjust that. youre not supposed to adjust things with the throttle cable. that will cause things to be too fast at idle and the ecu will try to retard the timing (i've had that happen before with putting on a rotor/cable assembly from a 92 integra throttle body--the rotor caused the throttle to be a bit open when at closed throttle). i'm wondering if its ok to adjust the tps using the "nonadjustable" screw that keeps the throttle rotor from going any further closed at idle (closed throttle).

In order to adjust the tps you have to drill out the non adjustable screws that hold it in and put regular screws in and adjust the sensor until you get the right voltage, then tighten the screws. With a voltmeter backprobe the tps electrical connector while its connected to the sensor (put positive probe on red/black wire - neg probe on ground). With the throttle closed it should read ~.5 volts and ~4.5 when at full throttle. Are you sure you need to adjust the tps?, it has non adjustable screws on it because it is not supposed to be messed with. It will usually throw a code if the tps is out of wack. An easy way to just adjust your idle speed is to use the air bleed screw on the throttlebody..it's a flathead screw at the top of the throttlebody. turn the screw in to lower idle, turn it out to raise idle.

so once you loosen the screws on the tps then what is the mechanism to adjust the thing if you just tighten them down again anyway? Is there an adjustment there?

What my question is also, what is the use of the set screw that acts to stop the rotor from going past a certain point at closed throttle. It would seem this would be the screw to adjust if I put a new rotor on the throttle body (ie to go from a gsr to a single runner manifold type) if the new one is at a different position causing the idle to be off. The idle screw you describe adjusts air mixture at idle rather than actually adjust throttle position like the other one does. Do you understand what I am saying?

To adjust the TPS, you have to remove or dremel a slot on the screws holding the TPS. Then, you slide the tps sensor while the screws are still on, but a little loose. You need a voltmeter to find the correct position.

The stop screw you are talking about should not be adjusted unless you have a bored TB and it is sticking. Adjusting the TB plate stop screw is not a good idea on a stock TB.

If you are going to replace the TB cam/cable linkage to the TB, just remove the nut holding it in place. Be sure to remember how the spring fits in. You should not have to adjust the TPS if you are just changing the cable linkage.

thanks. i think that answers my question. My throttle does stick a little on initial acceleration after the car is sitting for a while. I am hoping some teflon lube spray will fix that.

If the tps has to be adjusted, is it a back and forth or side to side adjustment usually?

thanks again

When you loosen the 2 screws, you can rotate the housing. That is how to adjust the TPS. Do not remove it, just put a voltmeter to the signal wire and test for .5 volts at the closed position.........
