third time breaking flywheel bolts HELP!!!!
Alright to give some info on my car. Its a 1999 honda civic dx hatchback. The swap is a h2b i have a h22a motor with a gsr transmission. The kit i used is from QSD. The clutch is from ACT extreme pressure plate with the six puck sprung disc. The first and second time i broke these bolts was when i had a single jingle and the third time was with the h2b setup. i torque it down to spec and put red lock tight on the flywheel bolts. But for some reason the bolts came out three broke in the crank and five came loose. Am wondering what advice do you guys give me? And where can i find these bolts the measurement are 1.0 thread 1 3/4 in length and a 12mm. Am tired of calling QSD I left voicemails am just trying to get these 8 freaking bolts to get my car on the road again and put some times down on the track. Any help in where i could get these bolts made or bought fill me in thanks for the help
Damn, damn! You know the saying goes, "3 times a charm!" But, from what you posted, man, 3 x's breakin' off bolts, that's it, "3 times you're OUT!" If I were you, get a Screw Extractor kit and get those broken bolts off, eh!
I managed to take the broken bolts out lol just need to find the bolts and what else should i do when i go to tighten them?
Get the bolts direct from honda dude. I can't give you any advice for your problem though, if your doing everything right then maybe theres a problem with the H2B conversion. Thats just speculation, i'm not talking from experience.
i had my bolts fall out once , i used the bolts used to hold the flex plate to the crank in a automatic motor on my flywheel lol(keep in mind i was 16 and it was my first motor swap lol) and once they fell out i held them side by side and realised the auto bolts are shorter then the 5 speed bolts so you might want to make sure your using the correct length bolts, or you could just put a end to it now and order some flywheel bolts from ARP as they sell the bolts for B series engines . i dont see you breaking those .
make sure you spray some brake cleaner in the bolt holes and clean the bolts also before putting locktite on. it will not cure if any oil is present.
what are your torque spec's your using ?.
is your torque wrench calibrated ?

The qsd kit comes with the flywheel bolts from arp cause their longer. Thats what am thinking that my torque wrench is outta wack i forgot at how much it suppose to be torque down.. Its been a year i had this setup running and this just happen last monday

You probaly had the bolts back out and the excessive vibrations cause the 3 bolts to break off. Sometimes bolts in those sort of applications are just prone to backing out (from engine harmonics and other crap like that), the only sure fire to prevent it from happening again is safety wire, or pulling it apart every so often and retorqueing them. drilling the holes will be a bitch especially on those thin heads, they make a kit that goes under the bolt and you fold the tabs up over the heads and then attach the safety wire to the tabs.
your really lucky the incident didnt cause more damage....when a flywheel lets loose at 5000rpm its never a good thing.

I've never had any issues with my flywheel bolts and I beat the living **** out of my car.
As stated above:
1. Honda OEM bolts
2. Honda spec tightening pattern and torque (assure torque wrench is calibrated)
3. Safety wire would be a good option for you.
I got this safety wire bolt block off ebay:

Some avionics .020 stainless steel safety wire is about 7-10$. Would be perfect for the flywheel bolt heads but not enough weight to matter.
With the safety wire done properly, you should not have to even fool with lock-tite.

I have never had any problems with flywheel bolts either. But you do hear about it from time to time....certain engines just have the right frequency to vibrate the bolts loose. Im not saying that is what happened, as he stated his torque wrench could just be wrong....either way, safety wire is never a bad idea....In fact On the engine Im building now I plan to safety wire them in, just for that extra piece if mind, even if they do manage to work themselves loose it will keep them from falling completely out and causing catasrophic failure

If you use polyurethane engine mounts they start to unsettle a lot of fasteners that never loosened before in some cases with loc tite however.
I've seen cases with ppl using permatex and it still comes off or stay in a little puts stress on it and causes it to break.
3m is more detailed on the limits of their loc tite and offer more durable compounds and are also more money like 13 bucks ? It's widely used in motor sport.

Eveyone thanks for the help do guys think i should send the payment to qsd they told me its 80 bucks for eight bolts but they havent given a shipping quote . How much do guys think i should i might send 90 bucks
^^^
80$ for 8 bolts? helz no. If your having a hard time with QSD customer service, why bother buying from them?
Honda OEM $4.45 each (35.60 total)
Or go online:
$3.12 each = 25$
+ 5 handling + 5-8 shipping. (Still will end up being ~35$)

If your doing safety wire, buy a couple extra to practice on. Drilling those holes can be a bitch sometimes.
