Thinking about hacking my rear bumper....
Joking.
Well not really. I am thinking about cutting some of the lower rear bumper off of my CRX to reduce pressure build up under the car, and increase stability.
It will NOT be a hack job . I am thinking about cutting only about 4 inches up from the lower part of the bumper and about 4 feet wide To get the job done, yet keep it looking nice. It would basiclly be from the left side of the exhaust cut out, matched to the other side.
Yay?...Nay?

hey a colorado native. do you ever autocross that thing? Just curous. I used to live in Boulder while going to school but have moved back to my hometown of Pueblo since I have no job after graduating. Nice car by the way.
I was considering trimming the bumper or cutting hole in it, but didn't want the extra attention. Ever consider making a flat plate to block off that area instead?
If I had some sort of data aquisition and a laptop, I'd love to put a differential pressure transducer back there to see what the difference is on each side of the bumper, and estimate what kind of drag force you'd be getting rid of.

THAT is exactly what I would like to do. I would only be cutting out the black part of my bumper, so unless you were really paying attention, you wouldn't notice it was mudulafied.
It is functional. Or else why would almost every true race car out there have something similar?
I do sometimes go to the the AutoX at Coor's Field, but I have yet to race. Just really no time. I will once my Turbo setup is complete in about 3 months. I am really building the car to focus on drag racing, but the car will be doing all kinds of racing.
My #1 goal with the Car is to achive an 11 second pass. This would make the car one of the fastest street legal Honda's in Colorado. Along with making the pass with a built D series (ZC)!

It's also not just Drag your getting rid of.
Along with my Front Lip, I will basically be creating a "low pressure" area under the car, sucking it to the road.

Bryson, i did the same exact thing (sawzall is hard to manuever), thinking exactly the same thing. why not get a rear bumper from, say, WW and remove the mesh?
after you remove the lip put a plate there from the rear arms up to the edge.
a better solution would be to cut away and reweld flat the spare tyre well, which i will do very soon, that way you can create a nice slope from the control arms to the edge, allowing compressed air to expand and create a vaccum. side skirts and a facia would be essential for the complete negative pressure effect.
