Default thermostat help 94 integra

Alright so here's the deal. I got a 94 integra ls and when I bought it the engine temp was always on cold no matter how long I drove it. Thermostat right? So I thought that the thermostat had one of those fail safes that keep the thermostat open for coolant to go through and keep the engine from overheating. I changed the thermostat and the engine overheats and at the same time the car's idle goes crazy it idles vigoriously, wasn't like that before. When I give it a test drive I noticed my car wants to speed up very slowly by it self and when I'm at a complete stop the car keeps jumping forward and I do notice the rpm keeps going up and down when I'm at a complete stop. One possibility that I came up with is that the radiator fan doesn't come on when the temperature goes up. I'm just seeing if just this radiator fix will fix the whole crap that came with changing the dam thermostat.

Sounds like you may have some air in the cooling system, try bleeding it some more

When the car is overheating is the lower radiator hose hot or cold? When you say that you replaced the thermostat what brand/style did you get. Reason I ask that question is there are some cheap thermostats that always have issues right out of the box. Another thing to check is the radiator. Can you feel the radiator when the car is running. You should check to see if the coolant is circulating all the way through top to bottom of the radiator, it should be warm at the top and the bottom if it is working properly when the thermostat is open.
