tensioner bolt hole stripped
im in the process of swaping out my 404 cams for my stockers becuase i failed emissions.. so i get everything in n all, i go to tighten my tensioner, and it gets a little tighter then it gets looser, so i pulled the bolt and tensioner out of there and theres a grip of metal shaving inside my tensioner, so i take a flashlight to the bolt hole, and its fuggin striped. now my question is what can i do now? should i take my block to a machinest shop and have em put new threads? or is there another way i can get threads in there? or should i get a new block and swap everything over? im really straped for cash right now, duno. lemme hear some opionins , TIA
I would try to re-thread the hole with the appropriate size tap..
If your not sure what size then take the tensioner bolt to a knowledgeable tool store, auto parts store , hardware store and they should be able to match it up and show you exactly what you need to get the job done..

whats heli coil? is it like a tap? i dont know much about rethreading striped holes, so can yall explain the process, this really sucks, hope i dont have to get another block if i mess up. and how much does the heli coil go for? thanks
To use a heli-coil you would have to drillout the hole and insert the heli-coil, its a sleave that screws into that hole and replaces your exsisting threads.. I would use this method as a last resort.. in order to insert the heli-coil you would also have to tap out the hole you drilled adding an extra unecessary step..
A tap is very similiar to an ordinary bolt but is made of high tensile steel and sharp as a *****! as you screw the tap into the hole you will be actually creating new threads, the tap thread size should be the same thread size on the bolt you plan on using to tighten down the tensioner.. the original bolt should work just fine as long as you didn't strip the threads in the hole too bad.. I send a link with a pic so you get the idea..
