tensioner bolt hole stripped. what can be done? help! fast...plz?
just wanted to know what can i do to fix the problem when the z6 engine belt tensioner bolt hole is stripped? what can i use to rethread it. The bolt hole uses a 14mm bolt but the hole seem to be larger than the bolt itself. What can i buy to fix it? not sure what to buy at sears.

Go buy a quality tap and die set. Use the guage they give you to use on the bolt to determine the pitch and size of the threads in the hole. If possible take it to someone with expericence. You only get a few chances to do this right. I know you have to tow it but it might be the wisest thing.

Sears isent where you want to go, goto a auto store, ask for a heli coil repair kit, it should include a tap, heli coils, and the tool to insert them.
What your going to do is tap the hole a bigger size then what you need, the coil is like a spring basicly that threads into the hole. Now once its in the bolt will thread inside the spring which hopefully is the correct size you need.
Otherwise what you can do is tap it to a larger size and use a bigger bolt.

Helicoil kits come packaged with 6 differnt sizes in them, just find out which one has the size you need in it. They have all differnt sizes from very small to large, I get my kits from Napa, they have worked pretty well for me thus far, but almost any quality auto parts stores carry them, lots of people use them to fix stripped out drainplugs.
