Technique of finding vacume leaks?
I have a B16a in a CRX and It has what I think is a vacume leak somewhere. The idle surges up and down. Is there anyway special to check for leaks besides just checking every connecion? I have checked all the connections and I put clamps on some hat didnt have clamps and could be hte cukpit but it still does it. What else can I try?
You can try to check your fast idle valve under the throttle body https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1003988. You can also use carb cleaner. turn the car on and spray each vac hose, I/M gasket and if their's a leak the idle should change. You can also use an air compresser to pressurize the I/M a then spray soapy water to check for leaks. You should see bubbles if you have a leak.
Yeah I heard of using carb cleaner. Spray a hose connection or gasket and look for bubbles/ change in idle. Move on to the next.

that's the easiest way I know of

you can also smoke a cigarette and then blow it into the a vacuum hose leading to the inake manifold..the best one to use is the the one running to the break booster, this way it can tell you not only gaskets and also crack vacum lines, but if your idle is surging, i doubt its a leak. vacuum leaks creates high idles, not surging.

You can also do this with an unlite propane torch. Makes less of a mess. Just do it outside.

They can also cause the idle to surge. Depending on where the leak is the ecu will try to compensate and essentially confuse itself.
To the OP, read this. It's an amazingly kickass troubleshooting guide:

yes they can..when you put it to theory, the iac when turn on and off to try and compensate for it, but its rare, so ill rephrase it, most of the time it will cause a high idle, rarely does it create a surge, or what they call in the industry FAST IDLE...dam just wasted another one off my post...freakin 5 per every 24 hour...LOL

You serious? I have never heard that one before. How do you do it? Just place it everywhere and listen for a certain sound?
