Default TDC issues?

Iv been having trouble while getting the TB on once everything is set to tdc. It seems as soon as I put tension on the belt the crank will turn a few degrees. I finally have it close and still am iffy about it. Any siggestions to keep the crank from moving once I apply tension?

Its hard to get an accurate picture of the oil pump marks.

Aren't you supposed to rotate the crank a few degrees to put tension on the belt and then torque the tensioner down?

If I do that the bottom end turns while the top remains still as it created tension on the exh side.

I have it all tightened up again, but it is still a hair off. The engine has a 2 layer hg can that be what is causing it?

Theres def a trick to doing tbelts. I usually back the crank off a bit so when you pull on the belt to put it on the exhaust gear it ends up tdc instead of moving past tdc. Theres also going to be a bit of slack in the belt between the exhaust gear and the crank that will misalign them when you first rotate it, which is also why I recommend backing off the crank so its a few degrees before TDC.

Well im not new to doing timing belts, and iv tried the above method. It just clicks back into place what seems to be a hair past the mark on the oil pump.

Yeah thats right on the money. Your thinner head gasket is probably throwing it off that little bit. That tiny bit isnt a tbelt tooth, its too little.
