Default TDC.. crankshaft

im about to perform a valve adjustment on my car tomorrow. according to the helms manual, i need to turn the crankshaft to TDC for each piston. after im done, the crankshaft needs to be retorqued to 181lb-ft.

is there a way to do this without using a socket on the crankshaft pulley? can i put the car in gear and merely push?

just use the bolt on the crank pulley. No way are you going to loosen it, I promise.

To loosen mine, I actually got the Honda tool to lock the pulley, with the attached ~2' long bar. Then I attached the socket/ratchet, and used a breaker bar about ~2' long. My heavier friend held on to the pulley lock while I bore down with my weight on the ratchet. I had to really get down on it to break it loose.

I 100% agree with jesse

If you really want to though- remove your spark plugs and you can turn the crank using the P/S pulley nut. (19mm)

yeah what they said was true. there is no way in hell you will loosen that crank pulley bolt at ALL. so you won't have to retorque it. i could count about 1000 posts where people have asked for tricks to get that F*CK*N PIECE OF SH*T, D*CKLESS, F*CK SH*T off of there. sorry about the expletives. i just remembered how difficult it was for me to get it off.

yeah actually i have that site bookmarked. its great. thanks!

is it necessary to modify a 10mm wrench shown here? http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/...cs/dsc00003.jpg

i was just reading this tutorial over as well as my helms manual one last time. i dont have the tappet tools so im gonna be using a screwdriver and wrench.

if i do have to modify the wrench like that, how would i do it? would it need to be heated and then bent? or will a regular open ended 10mm work?
