Tapping noise inside head of engine
Ok so heres the story / Couple months ago a spark plug blew inside the combustion chamber / I took apart the engine , did a leak test on the valves and all the valves were leaking / i had sent the head to a machine shop and had them resurface, deck, hot tank and install new supertech std size flat face valves / when put everything back together the engine had 150psi on all cylinders and also had this tapping sound coming from the head. Engine is jdm itr / Looking to take apart the engine in the next couple of months just dont have time now but need some info on what might be causing the tapping sound and low comp? The pistons were a little chewed up but just took them out , clean them and installed new rings. Also installed new oem head gasket but used the same head bolts maybe i should of installed arp head bolts?
my "guess" would be that if you took pistons out you may have not "clocked" the rings correctly. as far as the tapping, many things can cause this. first the LMA's could be bad, the new flat valves could be causing a engine "ping/knock". however MOST likely is that the LMA's are done for.
Makes sense considering the lmas are from 96 and yea i was planning on putting ctr pistons / I installed the rings according to a diagram that i found from evans tuning / Could it be the springs for the tapping sound cause they are old also / Am also prob going to put dish style valves back on was thinking buddy club?
unless you have a broken valve spring prob wont make noise like that. look into h22 lma's (i think that is what ppl use) there are several threads about switching to spring style lma's.
