Default Studder/Misfire under load.

I have a B16 in my CRX with a DC 4-2-1 header with only 1 O2 sensor. I just never hooked up the 2nd O2 sensor and every once in a while Id get a CEL and code 2. It never really did anyhting but just today it starting studdering and misfire around 2-3k rpms under load. Right after that the CEL came on with code 2. I just washed my engine like 30 mins before I went out and it happened. I coverd up the air filter alternator and didnt get any water on the fuse box or anything. With no 2nd O2 sensor will it studder and misfire like that? Can I just wire the one O2 sensor into both on the wires for the sensors? (I have both wires ran but only one hooked up).

the second o2 sensor is checking the threshold of the catylist to make sure it is functioning right. When you omit this sensor or use a test pipe, the computer is seeing that the converter isnt working properly and hence your CEL.

I would have someone weld a bung in for the second sensor and run it to get the CEL to go off and then retest for the misfire...usually a buckys or walts will weld it in for like 20 bucks

i dont think getting it wet will affect anything...my wideband sensor melted against something down to bare wire on two and im positive it had to have gotten wet but it still works just fine.

I wouldnt even mess with soldering in the wires to the primary sensor like youre doing...it will still flag that there is an issue between the first and second sensors.

Ok I hooked up the o2 sensor to both the o2 sensor wires and that didnt do ****. I studers in all rpms. As soon as I give it more than just slight trottle it studders a few times then revs up like normal. (This is just revving it in the driveway)

It did this same exact thing when I first did the swap, I was running open header because my exhuast wouldnt fit. It would studder horribly between 2k-3k then be fine. As soon as I got the exhaust on it went away, but at the same time I fix the knock sensor and Air temp sensor. The way I had to ghetto rig my Air temp sensor It did get wet when I cleaned the engine bay. Its not throwing any codes but would a bad air temp sensor cause it to studder

If you just washed your engine before it started happening I am sure that is what started it. You didn't mention covering up the distributor. Have you pulled the cap and cleaned it out? You probably have some moisture in there or now that you have run it a while, some carbon tracking. It's also possible to get water down by the spark plug boots and the water will conduct electricity and short the spark to ground. It's possible that the spark has burned a hold through the spark plug boot because of this. You should be able to see a small black mark where the insulation has broken down but sometimes it's hard to see. Check your secondary ignition parts (cap, rotor, plugs) and I think you'll find the problem.
