Default sterno heater in air box?

myself as well as a lot of you out there are always in search of ways to make more power. Yesterday, a friend told me his dad use to scrap out the gel from a Sterno heater and smear it all over the air box when n2o wasn't allowed in a drag race. he said it would make some nice power gains blah blah blah. just wondering if any of you have herd about doing that if so what kind of power gains could be expected? what is the stuff made of? etc...

It's some kind of gelled alcohol, so it'll do a couple things. The evaporation will cool the incoming air. And the alcohol adds a little bit of oxygenated fuel.

With O2 sensors, the extra fuel should be compensated by the ECU, so that part probably won't do much. Other methods of cooling are probably more effective, too.
