Default Starter is dead I think

The car makes a loud tapping noise when I turn the key. Is that the starter? The last few days the car has been very slow to start as well. Also, how much do starters usually run? And which one do I get for a first gen b16? Cable tranny.

I had the same problem a year ago turns out it was the alternator not the starter. Easy way to check the alt. is to start the car then disconnect the neg on the battery if the car stalls its the alternator. If not then look at the starter.

sometimes if your starter is old, your starter contacts might be worn. These are very cheap to replace instead of a complete starter (couple bucks as opposed to 100+)... I would try that first. Make sure your battery terminals are clean and not corroded (sp?).
